SARASOTA, Fla. -- Tommy Haas has withdrawn from Wimbledon in order to be close to his family, he announced Monday.

Haas' parents, Peter and Brigitte Haas, have been hospitalized since they a collision with another vehicle while on a motorcycle on June 8 in Sarasota. His father remains in critical condition, while his mother is in fair condition and could be released soon from the hospital.

"Wimbledon, with its tradition and prestige, has always been a special event, but my place is with my family during these difficult times," said Haas, who would have been the fifth seed. "This is a critical time for my parents, and I need to be at their side."

Haas, 24, lives in Sarasota and trains in Bradenton. His parents, both 54, were visiting from their home in Germany.
