DENVER -- Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Adin Brown's knee surgery on Friday was successful, the team said, and Brown is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks.
Brown, a likely starter on the U.S. Olympic team, underwent
arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in Denver. Doctors cleaned
up the right meniscus, or cartilage, the team said in a written statement.
Brown, Colorado's first-round draft choice and the third overall
pick in the 2000 MLS Super Draft, is expected to miss four Major
League Soccer games, beginning with Saturday's road matchup with
D.C. United.
Brown is 4-7-1 with two shutouts this season. Before the
surgery, officials said it was the second time his right knee has
required the cleanup procedure.
Both Brown and coach Glenn Myernick said the surgery was not
done to make sure the goalie is ready for the Sydney Games.
David Kramer will start for the Rapids on Saturday, the team
announced. His backup will be Randy Dedini, who was called up from
the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the A-League.
