TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Eduardo Hurtado and Henry Zambrano scored in
the first half and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars surprised the
playoff-bound Tampa Bay Mutiny 2-1 Saturday night.
The MetroStars, who have the worst record in Major League Soccer
at 7-24, had lost 14 of 15 matches. New York/New Jersey won three
of four games against Tampa Bay this season.
Chad McCarty scored for the Mutiny, who are battling Miami for
third place in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay (14-16) has lost
three straight, but still have a six-point lead over the Fusion.
Hurtado scored in the fifth minute and Zambrano added his goal
in the 22nd. Tampa Bay got within 2-1 on McCarty's goal in the 38th
minute.
The Mutiny controlled play in the second half, but had two
scoring chances stopped on strong plays by defenders Mark Semioli
and Mohammad Khakpour.
