Murray scores twice for Kings

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The NHL's highest-scoring team faced one of the league's stingiest defenses, and nothing was settled between the Los Angeles Kings and the Phoenix Coyotes.

Rob Blake scored with 7:43 left in the third period and Glen Murray scored the first two goals of the game as the Kings earned a 3-3 tie Tuesday night.

Landon Wilson, Keith Tkachuk and Shane Doan scored for the Coyotes, who extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games and their road unbeaten streak to eight.

Sean Burke made 26 saves for the Coyotes, who have tied their last three and have gone to overtime in seven of their last 10. They are two games shy of tying the longest unbeaten streak in franchise history.

The Kings lead the league with 60 goals, while the Coyotes have allowed 29 goals -- fifth-lowest in the NHL.

"They have a lot of things going for them, but so do we -- with our hard work ethic and the way we've been battling night in and night out," Kings goalie Jamie Storr said. "We scored three goals against a tough team to score against. And they weren't easy goals. We were making our own opportunities."

Burke thwarted Murray's bid for a hat trick from close range just 27 seconds into overtime with a leg save. Keith Carney was sent off for tripping Ziggy Palffy in front of the net, but the Kings failed to capitalize on the power play as Jozef Stumpel couldn't handle Blake's perfect setup pass.

With the Coyotes leading 3-2, Jeremy Roenick was sent off for interfering with Blake deep in the Phoenix zone and the Kings capitalized on the ensuing power play.

Bryan Smolinski got a lead pass from Mathieu Schneider and fed the puck to Blake, who beat Burke high to the glove side for his sixth goal.

"I was a little disappointed because I committed a bit early," Burke said. "He made a good shot and he probably would have beaten me with that shot anyway because it was so quick and so accurate. But I should have been a little bit more patient."

The Coyotes, who were outshot 29-25, had taken a 3-2 lead on Shane Doan's goal with 12:14 remaining.

Wilson scored for Phoenix at 13:09 of the second, less than three minutes after Murray's second goal of the game gave the Kings a 2-0 lead. Wyatt Smith faked a slap shot from the right point, then flipped the puck toward the net and it caromed in off Wilson's leg.

Tkachuk, returning to the Coyotes' lineup after missing the previous game because of back spasms, tied it with a power-play goal with 12 seconds left in the period.

Kings goalie Jamie Storr said coach Andy Murray didn't say much to the team between periods after the Coyotes had tied it 2-2.

"He knew we'd been strong all game, and he just told us, `Go out there and have a strong third period -- take it to 'em and don't sit back," Storr said. "We have a lot of energy and a lot of talent in this room, so let's use it."'

After going more than 10 minutes before recording their first shot on net, the Kings opened the scoring on their second shot. Murray beat Burke high to the glove side after Robitaille's shot caromed off Phoenix defenseman Radoslav Suchy's skate and onto Murray's stick.

Murray scored again at 10:28 of the second, redirecting Robitaille's centering pass between Burke's pads from the edge of the crease.

"They're a very offensive team and they have a lot of weapons," Burke said. "You can't fall asleep on that team for a second."
