DALLAS (AP) _ Thomas Holmstrom's second power-play goal of the game with just under two minutes remaining in the third period propelled the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-2 tie with the Dallas Stars.

Holmstrom opened the scoring with 2:11 remaining in the first period. Detroit's preseason record is 4-2-2.

Dallas center Mike Modano scored a short-handed goal 8:50 into the second period, and Grant Marshall put the Stars (3-2-4) ahead with just under five minutes remaining in the second period.
