EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Alex Selivanov credited linemates Doug Weight and Ryan Smyth for his scoring success.

"We're talking to each other all the time," said Selivanov, who scored his NHL-leading 15th goal in Edmonton's 2-1 victory over Detroit on Saturday night.

"We know each other more. ... I also have the trust of the coaches, and I'm playing a lot."

Selivanov, who had only 14 goals last season with Tampa Bay and Edmonton, scored at 3:41 of the third period to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead en route to their second straight victory.

"It was a great goal," Oilers coach Kevin Lowe said. "He's got a lot of confidence. He's strong. He uses his strength to get around guys."

Smyth also scored, ending a 12-game goal drought at 6:25 of the first period. He last scored Oct. 16.

Detroit captain Steve Yzerman failed in his bid for his 600th NHL goal, but became the fifth player to reach 1,500 points with an assist on Mathieu Dandenault's goal with eight seconds remaining.

"It's a nice milestone," said Yzerman, who has 599 goals and 901 assists. "I would rather do it when we are playing well and winning. I'll think about it later."

Oilers goalie Tommy Salo made 29 saves.

The Red Wings lost their second straight.

Detroit's Sergei Fedorov hit his head on the ice after being knocked down behind the Oilers goal in the second period. He did not return.

Detroit's Yan Golubovsky also left the game early and didn't return after injuring a muscle in his rib cage.

Linesman Swede Knox was honored in a pregame ceremony for becoming the third NHL linesman to officiate 2,000 games.
