After leading the nation in scoring as a junior, Southwest Missouri State senior Jackie Stiles entered the 2000-2001 season needing just 792 points to become the NCAA's career Division I women's basketball scoring leader.

Patricia Hoskins, who played for Mississippi Valley State, had held the NCAA record, amassing 3,122 career points from 1985-89.

Stiles surpassed Hoskins at home March 1 against Creighton with 30 points for 3,133 in her career.

Now, Stiles has all the records. With 22 points against Indiana State on Thursday in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament, Stiles set the NCAA career scoring mark for all divisions. Jeannie (Demers) Henningsen had held the record after scoring 3,171 points for Division III Buena Vista University from 1984-87.

After scoring 47 points against Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament final, Stiles now has 3,253 career points.

While Stiles has the NCAA Division I scoring mark, the career collegiate record looks to be intact for a long time. Kansas' Lynette Woodard scored 3,649 points from 1978 to 1981. Woodard's senior season marked the final year that women's college basketball teams competed in the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW). The NCAA officially sanctioned women's college basketball prior to the 1982 season.
