Jackie Stiles became the NCAA Division I career scoring leader on Thursday, but the Southwest Missouri State senior might not be done rewriting the record books just yet.
Stiles is just 38 points away from tying the all-time NCAA scoring mark for all divisions. Jeannie (Demers) Henningsen holds the record after scoring 3,171 points for Division III Buena Vista University from 1984-87.
Henningsen, a 5-foot-5 guard, broke the all-time scoring leader mark with a 39-point performance on Feb. 25, 1987.
Henningsen, a four-time Academic All-American who graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average, was a two-sport athlete (basketball and softball) at Iowa's Buena Vista. She notched double-figure scoring performances in every college game she played, and scored 30 or more points in 58 outings.
Henningsen, who also was a member of the Buena Vista softball team that won the Division III national championship in 1984, was recently inducted into the Verizon Academic All-America Hall of Fame in June 1999.
Henningsen holds several school records, including points in a season (891). She also holds NCAA career records in field goals made (1,386) and field goals attempted (2,838).
