Without the students here, our social lives came to a halt, but we spend a lot of time with each other. My teammates are much like sisters, so spending a whole lot of time with them is not always a great thing. (Of course, spending time with my real sister, Holly is always awesome -- Hi Holly!) The freshmen cannot live in their dorms over break because the dorms are closed to save energy. So instead, the freshmen stay with upperclassmen. Rometra Craig stayed with me and Alana Beard stayed next door. As a senior, I do not have as much interaction with the freshmen, so this was a good chance to get to know them better. Rometra talked on the phone all the time and she always answered the phone and would always find me or wake me up if it was for me! Now, Rochelle Parent, my roommate, and I do not usually answer the phone, especially if we are sleeping. Neither of us are phone types, I guess. My friends can vouch for that one. Even when coach G was recruiting me, I never wanted to talk on the phone more than ten minutes. Well, Rometra has moved out now so our phone line is free, mom, but do not call, e-mail instead (just kidding! Love ya!). Besides practice, our team went to the movies twice. We saw What Women Want and Cast Away. Alana cried at the end of What Women Want and the whole team of course is still ridiculing her. I enjoyed the movie, but I always find objection to movies where falling in love is so glorified. Maybe it's just me, but I think that true love is a process. You cannot just love someone so wholeheartedly within two days of meeting. Now, I really appreciated Cast Away. Many of my teammates said there was not enough conversation and human interaction, but I thought that was the whole point. Besides our movie adventures, Alana and I also joined Dr. Friedman and his kids, Sara and Josh, for dinner one night. Josh has been trying so hard to get me to eat sushi, but I am a Midwestern girl -- we eat meat and potatoes! We went to Sushi Yoshi, and Alana and I were quite a site sitting on the floor with our long legs! Alana did try some of the so-called food but I stayed nice and boring in my comfort zone! By the way, I beat Josh in a basketball game and Sara and I beat Josh and her Dad. That aside is just a small reflection of my SLIGHTLY competitive nature! Well, the break is over now, classes have resumed and our team is improved and ready to go. Go Devils!! |
