Crouch stumbles during crunch time

ESPN.com

We'll be tracking the top six players on our weekly Heisman Poll each Saturday. Here is how those six players performed on Saturday. The ESPN.com Heisman Poll is voted on by Lee Corso, Todd Christensen, Bill Curry, Rod Gilmore, Mike Gottfried, Kirk Herbstreit, Mel Kiper, Jr., John Mackovic and Gene Wojciechowski.

CHRIS WEINKE -- FLORIDA STATE
Chris Weinke
Weinke
Breaking it down: There's no need for a recount. This candidate's numbers just get bigger and bigger. This week, five more touchdown tosses and another 300-plus yards. The game was nothing more than a scrimmage for the Seminoles before next week's Sunshine State Showdown II. Weinke and Co. only hope the outcome with their "other" Florida rival ends better.
Saturday's Performance: Beat Wake Forest, 35-6
Passing: 23 of 36, 324 yards; 5 TDs, 2 INTs
Season Statistics
Passing: 243 of 387, 3,814 yards; 30 TDs, 9 INTs

JOSH HEUPEL -- OKLAHOMA
Josh Heupel
Heupel
Breaking it down: Well, we were reminded just how well Heupel can keep a cool head under pressure on the road, not to mention lead his team on a fourth-quarter comeback. He didn't produce the winning points, but OU's offense did score 15 points in the final 15 minutes. The nation's No. 1 team's field general didn't have great numbers -- unless, of course, you count the only ones that matter: 9-0
Saturday's Performance: Beat Texas A&M, 35-31
Saturday's Statistics
Passing: 28 of 42, 263 yards; 1 TD, 2 INTs
Rushing: 8 carries, 26 yards.
Season Statistics
Passing: 213 of 315, 2,770 yards; 16 TDs, 7 INTs
Rushing: 51 carries, 113 yards; 6 TDs

DREW BREES -- PURDUE
Drew Brees
Brees
Breaking it down: Caught a break when Northwestern lost to Iowa, but neither he nor the Boilermakers needed this -- not with so much at stake. Pasadena is still on the agenda, as long as they get past Indiana next week. No other candidate's hopes rest more on his team reaching its BCS bowl of choice.
Saturday's Performance: Lost to Michigan State, 30-10
Passing: 26 of 43, 279 yards; 1 TD, 3 INTs
Rushing: 5 carries, 22 yards
Season Statistics
Passing: 266 of 444, 3,177 yards; 23 TDs, 11 INTs
Rushing: 85 carries, 449 yards; 4 TDs

DAMIEN ANDERSON -- NORTHWESTERN
Damien Anderson
Anderson
Breaking it down: Like Brees above, this loss wasn't what he or the Wildcats were looking for in Iowa City. And after last week's offensive show, it was next to impossible to think the 10th-ranked defense in the Big Ten could hold Anderson and his buddies in check. Still leads the nation's D-I backs in rushing. TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson is second (1,679).
Saturday's Performance: Lost to Iowa, 27-17
Rushing: 31 carries, 132 yards; 0 TDs
Season Statistics
Rushing: 254 carries, 1,735 yards; 18 TDs

ERIC CROUCH -- NEBRASKA
Eric Crouch
Crouch
Breaking it down: Another candidate bites the dust, or should we say the snow? As the weather got worse, so too did his chances of taking home the hardware. Two losses in the Huskers' two biggest games weren't his fault, but his hopes rested on the success of his team as much as any other player on this list. And his numbers alone won't win the Heisman Trophy.
Saturday's Performance: Lost to Kansas State, 29-28
Passing: 2 of 14, 39 yards; 0 TD, 1 INT
Rushing: 16 carries, 39 yards; 1 TD
Season Statistics
Passing: 64 of 140, 962 yards; 11 TD, 7 INTs
Rushing: 133 carries, 806 yards; 17 TDs

SANTANA MOSS -- MIAMI
Santana Moss
Moss
Breaking it down: It seems every Heisman races has an all-purpose threat as a candidate. Well, here's this year's do-everything player and he's a major reason why the Canes may be playing for the national championship in January.
Saturday's Performance: Beat Pittsburgh, 35-7
Receiving: 6 catches, 100 yards; 0 TDs
Rushing: 1 carry, 6 yards; 0 TDs
Punt Returns: 5 for 52 yards; 0 TDs.
Season Statistics
Receiving: 31 catches, 564 yards; 3 TDs
Rushing: 4 carries, 138 yards; 2 TDs
Punt Returns: 28 for 489 yards; 3 TDs
