Heupel the favorite with Brees and Weinke closing in

ESPN.com

We'll be tracking the top six players on our weekly Heisman Poll each Saturday. Here is how those six players performed on Saturday. The ESPN.com Heisman Poll is voted on by Lee Corso, Todd Christensen, Bill Curry, Rod Gilmore, Mike Gottfried, Kirk Herbstreit, Mel Kiper, Jr., John Mackovic and Gene Wojciechowski.

JOSH HEUPEL -- OKLAHOMA
Josh Heupel
Heupel
Breaking it down: Granted, it wasn't the same as throwing for the 300 yards against Nebraska, but Heupel was deadly accurate, as usual. He has solidified his role as favorite and only poor games down the stretch can keep him from winning the trophy.
Saturday's Performance: Beat Baylor 56-7
Saturday's Statistics
Passing: 21 of 29, 313 yards; 4 TD, 0 INT
Season Statistics
Passing: 185 of 273, 2,507 yards; 16 TDs, 5 INTs

DREW BREES -- PURDUE
Drew Brees
Brees
Breaking it down:A week off to sit back and start planning what to wear to New York. While Heupel is the favorite, Brees is still in the mix and a strong two final games -- with Purdue wins -- could pull him closer.
Saturday's Performance: Idle
Passing: 39 of 65, 455 yards; 3 TDs, 4 INT
Rushing: 6 carries, 4 yards
Season Statistics
Passing: 240 of 401, 2,898 yards; 22 TDs, 8 INTs
Rushing: 80 carries, 427 yards; 4 TDs

CHRIS WEINKE -- FLORIDA STATE
Chris Weinke
Weinke
Breaking it down: The other guy in the Heisman Race. While Heupel and Brees and grabbing the headlines, all Weinke is doing is putting up huge numbers. He went for over 500 yards -- again -- and has the Noles back in the Orange Bowl hunt. Another big effort in two weeks against Florida and this could get real interesting.
Saturday's Performance: Beat No. 10 Clemson 54-7
Passing: 27 of 43, 521 yards; 2 TD
Season Statistics
Passing: 220 of 351, 3,490 yards; 25 TDs, 7 INTs

MICHAEL VICK -- VIRGINIA TECH
Michael Vick
Vick
Breaking it down: This isn't the way we want to remember Michael Vick -- afraid to run. Against Miami, he was obviously hurting, but played anyway. It shows all kinds of courage. Unfortunately, the Heisman isn't about courage and with his struggles Saturday, Vick's run for the award is all but over.
Saturday's Performance: Lost to No. 3 Miami 41-21
Passing: 2 of 5, 9 yards; 0 TD; 1 INT
Rushing: 3 carries, 5 yards
Season Statistics
Passing: 71 of 138, 1,032 yards; 7 TDs, 6 INTs
Rushing: 99 carries, 589 yards; 8 TDs

LADAINIAN TOMLINSON -- TCU
LaDainian Tomlinson
Tomlinson
Breaking it down: For all his eye-popping stats, Tomlinson needed a good game and a win on national TV, but the Horned Frogs stumbled against San Jose State on ESPN2 Saturday. Not only is TCU out of the BCS picture, but Tomlinson is just about out of the Heisman picture as well now.
Saturday's Performance: Lost to San Jose St. 27-24
Rushing: 32 carries, 155 yards; 2 TDs
Season Statistics
Rushing: 227 carries, 1,248 yards; 17 TDs

ERIC CROUCH -- NEBRASKA
Eric Crouch
Crouch
Breaking it down: Crouch showed what a dangerous runner he is as the Huskers bounced back in a big way from last week's loss to Oklahoma. While Crouch is a long shot to make it to New York, a few more good outings -- including one in the Big 12 title game -- and maybe he sneaks back in the race.
Saturday's Performance: Beat Kansas 56-17
Passing: 3 of 3, 15 yards; 1 TD, 0 INT
Rushing: 13 carries, 127 yards; 4 TD
Season Statistics
Passing: 62 of 126, 923 yards; 11 TD, 6 INTs
Rushing: 133 carries, 806 yards; 16 TDs
