Inside the Playbook: Washington at Colorado

Washington is hot. Colorado is not. The 10th-ranked Huskies are 2-0 after beating Idaho and then upsetting then-No. 4 Miami 34-29 last week. Colorado is a disappointing 0-2 after tight losses to Colorado State and USC.

Saturday's game at Boulder, Colo., is a momentum game. Either both teams will continue in their current direction, or they could both reverse course. And what better way for Colorado to do that than against former coach Rick Neuheisel? Remember, Washington was 0-2 last season until a victory over Colorado sparked the Huskies to seven wins in nine games.

The key for Colorado is its defense. If it can stop do-it-all quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo (11), the Buffaloes might start a run of their own.

Coaching Points:

  • The Buffaloes bring a strong running tandem of Cortlen Johnson (27) and Marcus Houston (21).
  • Husky LBs Jeremiah Pharms (4) and Derrell Daniels (24) must stop Colorado's ground game -- and be wary of the cutback.
  • Johnson (27) gets the toss and cuts up inside the block of fullback Scott Nemeth (6).
