| GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Junior quarterback Jesse Palmer will start against Alabama in Saturday's Southeastern Conference Championship Game, Florida coach Steve Spurrier said Thursday.
His decision will make it four quarterback combinations in four games for the Gators. Against Vanderbilt on Nov. 6, Johnson started and played the entire game as Florida won 13-6. After that subpar performance, Spurrier went with Palmer against South Carolina the next week. The Gators won 20-3 as the offense still struggled. Facing top-ranked Florida State on Nov. 20, Spurrier rotated Johnson and Palmer every play with Johnson starting every series, giving him almost twice as many snaps as Palmer. Florida lost 30-23, ending its national title hopes. Spurrier said he's not sure whether Palmer will start every series against the Crimson Tide, who beat the Gators 40-39 in overtime Oct. 2 in Gainesville. He's only sure that Palmer will start. "I don't have all the answers," Spurrier said.In Florida's previous game against the Tide, Johnson had his best game of the season, completing 22 of 31 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Spurrier's decision guarantees that at least four quarterbacks
will be used in Saturday's game in Atlanta. Alabama coach Mike DuBose has said he will use two quarterbacks, Andrew Zow and Tyler Watts. | ALSO SEE Game of the Week: Florida vs. Alabama
