RECAP | BOX SCORE

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Dean Oliver scored 19 points and Reggie Evans scored 17 points and tied a career-high with 18 rebounds, as Iowa remained undefeated in the Big Ten with an 83-73 win over Purdue on Saturday.

Iowa (14-2, 3-0 Big Ten) stretched a four-point halftime lead to 11 with 9:45 left in the game after two free throws by Oliver. The Hawkeyes saw the lead dip to as few as six points after an 11-6 Purdue run, capped off by a Kenny Lowe 3-pointer.

Glen Worley ended the run with a 3-pointer, and the Boilermakers (11-4, 3-1) wouldn't come close again.

The difference came at the free-throw line. Iowa was 35-of-41 for 85 percent. Purdue was 18-of-29 and missed several key attempts at the end of both halves. Oliver made only three of his 12 attempts from the floor, but he was 13-of-15 from the free-throw line. Evans was 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Lowe led Purdue with 15 points. Rodney Smith, who came in averaging 16.4 points, was held to 10.

Iowa led 38-32 at the half, but led by as many as 14 points. Henderson scored six points as the Hawkeyes started the game on a 17-4 run. A free throw by Sean Sonderleiter at 8:10 gave them a 29-15 lead.

It was 34-21 when Purdue closed the half on an 11-4 run. The Boilermakers could have made it closer, but they missed three free-throws in the final minute.

Luke Recker, playing his first game in his home state since he transferred from Indiana following the 1998-99 season, scored only 5 points before fouling out with a minute left in the game. Recker was loudly booed during pregame introductions and whenever he touched the ball.
