A look at the Yale University students killed or injured

Associated Press

SEAN FENTON: Killed. A 20-year-old Yale junior from Newport Beach, Calif., Fenton played football for Yale as a freshman. He later joined the Yale Entrepreneurial Society, designed Web pages for Yale groups and was known to help fellow students who had computer problems. "He was usually the one to be the designated driver, to take responsibility, to help everyone out," said his roommate, Walter Badgett.

KYLE BURNAT: Killed. A 19-year-old sophomore from Atlanta, Burnat was a pitcher. The right-hander threw in three games as a freshman, allowing three hits and one run. Burnat was a summer intern for Georgia Sen. Zell Miller and a star on the senator's softball team. "Kyle was a very, very special child. He excelled in everything that he did and always exceeded his parents' expectations," said his father, Lawrence Burnat.

ANDREW DWYER: Killed. Dwyer was a 19-year-old sophomore from Hobe Sound, Fla. A friend and Yale football player, Will Conroy, said he and Dwyer played squash and hung around together. "He was a good guy, and we had good times together," Conroy said. "He was as nice and polite a kid as you can find."

NICHOLAS GRASS: Killed. Grass, 19, of Holyoke, Mass., was a sophomore and a pitcher on Yale's baseball team. Grass made 13 appearances last season, compiling a 1-3 record over 21.2 innings. In April he had his first collegiate victory, 9-7 over Sacred Heart. Tom Brassil, the head baseball coach at Holyoke High School, said Grass joined the Holyoke varsity team as a sophomore and turned himself into the best pitcher in western Massachusetts through hard work and intense offseason workouts.

ERIC WENZEL: Critically injured. Wenzel, 21, of Garden City, N.Y., is a senior fullback on the football team and the starting goalie for the Yale lacrosse team. He made 14 saves last year in the Bulldogs' 15-13 win over Princeton to break Princeton's 37-game Ivy League winning streak. He worked the past two summers as a Wall Street intern. "He's an unbelievable kid," said Bob Defliese, an assistant football coach in Garden City.

BRETT SMITH: Critically injured. Smith is a 19-year-old freshman from Papillion, Neb. A reserve quarterback for the Bulldogs, he was a national merit semifinalist last year at Papillion-LaVista High School. His coach there, Gene Suhr, described him as "always upbeat and fun to be around."

ZACHORY BRADLEY: Injured, in stable condition. Bradley, 19, is a sophomore and infielder from Alexander, Ark. He is Yale's fastest player, stealing 11 bases in 13 attempts last year. He hit .250 with two home runs and 10 RBI.

CAMERON FINE: Injured, in stable condition. Fine, 18, of Phoenix, is a freshman and offensive lineman.

CHRISTOPHER GARY: Injured, in stable condition, Fine, 18, is a freshman linebacker from Nazareth, Pa. His high school football coach, Dave "Whitey" Williams, said Gary had an impressive work ethic on the field and planned to study engineering at Yale. "He's a great kid," Williams said. "It's a sad situation for all."
