CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Vince Carter scored 22 points and had a sky-high alley-oop dunk while leading the Toronto Raptors to a 94-88 exhibition victory over Charlotte on Wednesday night.

Toronto (4-4) trailed by 18 early in the third quarter, but Corliss Williamson and Kevin Willis combined for 15 points in an 18-8 run to cut the score to 71-65.

``We just came out in the third and played hard and didn't worry about the score,'' Carter said. ``We just took it possession by possession and slowly pulled back in it.''

The Raptors stayed close the rest of the third, then took their first lead at 84-82 on Dell Curry's 3-pointer with 8:37 to play.

Kornel David extended the lead with consecutive layups and Charles Oakley hit a jumper to give Toronto a 90-84 lead.

Carter, who had failed to showcase any of his acrobatic dunks, finally delivered one with 2:47 to play. Curry tossed a pass high above the rim and Carter sailed over to it and slammed it through the hoop with both hands.

``The dunk just happened, I wasn't planning on doing anything,'' Carter said. ``The most important thing for me is to get the team playing well and not worry about making a highlight.''

Jamal Mashburn scored 15 of his 28 points in the first quarter to lead the Hornets (4-3). Mashburn, acquired during the offseason in a trade with the Miami Heat, was a perfect 7-for-7 in the first half, including four 3-pointers.

Eldridge Recasner made three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Charlotte take a 61-45 lead at the half.

David finished with 16 points for Toronto. Willis added 15, Williamson had 14 and Curry scored 13.

Charlotte got 14 points from Recasner. Elden Campbell scored 11 and Eddie Robinson had 10.

Toronto finished the preseason with two victories, while the Hornets lost their final two games. But Mashburn said it was still a successful training camp for Charlotte.

``People didn't really expect a lot from us in the preseason because we have a lot of new faces, different personalities and a different system,'' Mashburn said. ``But I think we made it out and we'll continue to learn and grow.''
