SEATTLE (AP) _ Gary Payton had 29 points and 10 assists to lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 113-109 exhibition victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

Sacramento took it to the wire after losing a 10-point halftime lead, and the Kings were within 109-107 with 16 seconds left after Malik Allen made two free throws.

Seattle's Ruben Patterson made two free throws after being fouled on the inbounds pass, then Allen got the Kings within 111-109 with a putback with less than 10 seconds to go.

Patterson was fouled again on the inbounds with 5 seconds left and made both free throws for the final margin.

Patterson finished with 24 points, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, while Patrick Ewing added 14 points, Brent Barry had 12 and Vin Baker 10. Barry also had seven rebounds and six assists.

Chris Webber led the Kings with 22 points in 31 minutes, after being listed as questionable for the game because of tendinitis in his right Achilles' tendon.

Ewing tied the game at 72 on a 19-foot jumper with 4:09 left in the third quarter. The Sonics took the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter at 77-76 as Baker was fouled on a putback with 2 minutes left and made the free throw.

Predrag Stojakovic scored 13 points for the Kings, who led 60-50 at halftime, while Jon Barry and Scot Pollard each had 11 and Bobby Jackson added 10.

Sonics starting guard Desmond Mason sat out the game with a sprained right ankle, and starting small forward Rashard Lewis was out with a sprained right knee.
