ATLANTA (AP) -- Mookie Blaylock insisted it was just another game, but his performance against his former team looked like a
special game for the Golden State Warriors point guard. Blaylock had 19 assists and seven steals against the Atlanta
Hawks as the Warriors snapped an 11-game losing streak with a
107-99 win over the Hawks on Friday night.
Blaylock, who had nine points, was traded from Atlanta in the
offseason for point guard Bimbo Coles and the 10th pick in the 1999 draft, which the Hawks used to obtain Jason Terry.
"I'm thinking win, that trade is over with, in the past,"
Blaylock said. "It felt good to come in here and get a win. I had
some flashbacks; I felt a little young out there."
Golden State guard John Starks, who had his own homecoming this
week against the New York Knicks, knew it meant more.
"He was excited," Starks said. "He wanted this win very badly."
Chris Mills added 20 points off the bench for the Warriors, who
snapped Atlanta's five-game winning streak.
Isaiah Rider scored 34 to lead the Hawks.
"I don't think we took them lightly," Rider said. "We know
anybody can beat anybody in this league. We came out a little flat
and they came out kind of intense."
Atlanta had cut a 13-point lead to 102-98 when Blaylock hit a
3-pointer with 1:26 remaining to cut off the Hawks rally.
"It felt good to hit the shot, especially when I had a couple
of open 3s before that and I didn't knock them down," Blaylock
said. "To step up and stick a dagger in them, it felt good."
Antawn Jamison scored 19 points and Terry Cummings added 17 for
Golden State.
The Warriors took advantage of 14 Hawks turnovers in the first
half to take a 17-point lead.
The Hawks trailed by double figures for most of the third
quarter. But Rider hit a 3-pointer from the left wing and Atlanta
outscored Golden State 16-8 in the last 3:31 of the period to pull
within 80-73 entering the fourth quarter.
Game notes| | | | Isaiah Rider scored 34 points, but his efforts weren't enough to beat the Warriors. |
The Hawks played without Jim Jackson (knee) and Roshown
MacLeod (pulled groin), which has hurt their depth. The Golden
State reserves outscored the Atlanta's 50-23. ... The Hawks went
into the game leading the NBA in field goal percentage at 47.4
percent. It's the best Hawks have shot since the 1989-90 season
when made 48.7 percent of their field goal attempts.
