Scouting Report
1999 Season
Anaheim signed journeyman Jeff Huson as an insurance policy after their anticipated 1999 starting second baseman, Justin Baughman, broke his leg in winter ball. Huson played sparingly until second baseman Randy Velarde was traded to Oakland in July.
Hitting, Baserunning & Defense
A light-hitting lefty with a slashing line-drive swing, Huson rarely provides extra-base hits. He's an intelligent baserunner who uses instincts rather than speed on the bases. He picked his spots wisely last year, swiping 10 bags in 11 tries. Huson's versatility has kept him around through the years, and last season he filled in admirably at first base, second base, shortstop, third base and even left field, committing a total of five errors in his various roles.
2000 Outlook
The Angels were the fourth team in four years for Huson, and he once again is a free agent who has glove, will travel. He wasn't offered arbitration but should catch on somewhere as a role player.
