Was 8-3 with a 3.42 in 16 starts with the Padres ...Made his first 30 appearances in relief, with a 1-2 record and a 3.27 ERA ... Struck out 157 in 144.0 innings pitched while walking only 48 ... His strikeouts per nine innings pitched ratio of 9.81 was the best in the majors with at least 140 IP ... Opposing batters hit just .221 against him ... Started Game 2 of the Division Series but lasted only 4.1 innings.

1995
Made 15 starts (17 appearances) on the season with the club going 12-5 in those games ... Posted a career high five victories on the season ... Won first three decisions (6 starts), posting a 3.86 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 11 walks ... June 10 vs. New York tossed first complete game of career and struck out a career-high 12 (the most by a Padre hurler since Andy Benes struck out 14 New York Mets July 15, 1994 at New York), allowing four hits and two runs (both coming on solo home runs) with one walk in the 4-2 victory ... July 17 vs. Cincinnati left the game after 2.1 innings with right elbow tendinitis ... Offensively, finished with .296 average with a double and four RBI.

1993
Started the season with Las Vegas (AAA), but was promoted to the Padres for two separate stints ... Compiled a 5-10, 4.96 ERA record in 24 starts with the Stars ... Had six games with 10 or more strikeouts and finished the season with 161 and a strikeout ratio of 9.51 per nine innings to lead all Triple-A pitchers ... Was selected as the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for July 25-31 (1-0, 8 H, 2 ER, 1.06 ERA, 17 IP, 23 K's, 2 GS) ... Was recalled to the Padres for the first time Aug. 6 to replace Wally Whitehurst, who had just been placed on the DL ... Won his major league debut with a start in the second game of a doubleheader that night against the Colorado Rockies as he allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings ... Got his first major league hit in the same game, an RBI-single off Willie Blair ... Made one more start before being optioned back to Las Vegas ... Went 1-1, 2.12 ERA with two complete games and 16 strikeouts and was recalled by the Padres for the remainder of the season, Aug. 26 ... For the season, limited right-handed batters to a .207 average.
