MONTREAL (AP) -- Geoff Jenkins put an end to the Milwaukee Brewers' longest skid of the season.

"You don't want to keep that going," Jenkins said. "We just got together as a team today and said: 'Let's pick it back up.' Everybody knows that they've just got to do their job, and we'll be all right."

Everett Stull (1-1) got his first major league win, allowing two runs and nine hits in five-plus innings.

"It was one of the greatest thrills I've ever had in my life," Stull said. "I've spent a number of years in the minor leagues -- eight, to be exact -- just trying to get this opportunity, and it came through for me tonight."

He gave up consecutive homers by Lee Stevens and Chris Widger leading off the fourth.

Milwaukee had a season-high 15 hits to send Montreal to just its second loss in its last seven games at Olympic Stadium.

"They've got some hitters over there," Jenkins said. "They've got a good offense and our pitchers did a great job of shutting them down tonight."

Jenkins, who homered off Hideki Irabu (1-2) leading off the second, doubled off left-hander Steve Kline with runners at second and third in the seventh to make it 6-3.

"Those are the kind of things we've got to do," Jenkins said. "Early on, a couple of games, the other team brought a lefty out of the pen and we didn't get the job done."

Expos manager Felipe Alou brought in Kline to face Jeromy Burnitz and Jenkins after Mark Loretta got the second of his three straight singles with one out in the seventh.

Alou felt he had no choice but to turn to Kline, who appeared in his fifth straight game.

"I really didn't want to pitch him tonight, but the two lefties were coming up, third and fourth," Alou said.

Burnitz doubled to advance Loretta to third, setting the stage for Jenkins' game-breaking hit.

"I like going out there and throwing every day," Kline said. "I get paid to do that, I'm not paid to sit around on the bench and cheer for my team. I threw a bad pitch to Burnitz and then I threw a pretty good pitch to Jenkins, and he found the hole."

Ron Belliard was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, and Kevin Barker had a pair of run-scoring doubles.

Irabu, making his first appearance against Milwaukee since July 20, 1997, allowed five runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Jenkins hit his sixth homer leading off the second and the Brewers added a second run on Barker's RBI double.

"I'm just seeing the ball well," Jenkins said. "I'm not really trying to do anything special. I'm not trying to swing for them, I'm just trying to put the bat on the ball."

Belliard homered leading off the fourth to make it 3-0 and, after Jose Hernandez singled with one out, Barker delivered his second straight run-scoring double.

Montreal closed to 4-2 in the bottom half when Stevens led off with his third homer and Widger followed with his second of the season.

Vladimir Guerrero scored the Expos' third run on a strange play in the sixth to draw Montreal within one.

Guerrero singled leading off to chase Stull, and advanced on Chris Widger's one-out single off Jim Bruske.

Both runners moved up on Michael Barrett's grounder to shortstop, and Guerrero came home on Orlando Cabrera's sharply-hit grounder to third. Hernandez ran down Widger for the third out, after electing not to throw to first.

Barker's doubles were his first two of the season. ... Loretta returned to the Brewers lineup after leaving Thursday night's 5-4 loss in New York with a mild concussion. Loretta, who went 3-for-5, didn't start Friday night, though he was available off the bench. ... Guerrero is tied with Larry Walker for seventh on the Expos' career homer list at 99, one behind Larry Parrish. Andre Dawson's 225 homers from 1976-86 are the most by an Expo, followed by Gary Carter (220) and Larry Parrish (204). ... Mike Thurman made 61 pitches in a three-inning rehab outing for Class-A Jupiter on Friday. Thurman, who is on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis, allowed two runs and seven hits and took the loss as the Hammerheads fell 16-3 to Brevard County.
