Lakers come back from 2-0

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

May 17, 2004 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

Los Angeles Lakers -- The Lakers became the eighth team in NBA history to come back from 2-0 down to win a best-of-seven series by knocking off the San Antonio Spurs in six games. Phil Jackson did a great job keeping this team together and Derek Fisher hit the shot of the season to win Game 5. The Zen master made adjustments to shut down the penetration of Spurs guard Tony Parker and the Lakers have to be saluted for the win.

Smarty Jones -- The Philadelphia-bred champion has now won two of the three legs of the Triple Crown and won the Preakness by a record 11˝ lengths. The fans in Philadelphia have to be excited about this sports season. St. Joe's made a great run in college basketball, the Flyers are still going strong in hockey and the Eagles made a run at the Super Bowl. I believe Smarty Jones will win the Belmont and bring the Triple Crown to Philadelphia Park!

Jeff Foster -- The power forward scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Pacers took a 3-2 lead over the Heat Saturday night. Jeff Foster? He did very little in the first four games of the series before exploding to lead his team to victory. It was a big weekend for little-used forwards as the New Jersey Nets' Brian Scalabrine hit four big trifectas in Game 5 to help them win a big ballgame.

Joe Paterno -- The Penn State football coach was given a four-year extension. For those who have criticized Joe Pa, the man is a legend and I hope to keep going as strong as my fellow paison!

Mike Maroth -- Last season's 21-game loser is 4-1 for the Tigers this season.

Ben Sheets -- The former Olympic hurler struck out 18 Atlanta Braves to lead his Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-1 victory.

Tony Parker -- The Spurs point guard was 4-for-18 from the floor, scored nine points and had six turnovers in the final game for San Antonio. After being a star in the first two games, Parker disappeared.

Roy Jones Jr. -- The former light heavyweight champion was stunned in a second-round knockout by Antonio Tarver Saturday night in Las Vegas. Tarver felt he was robbed in their first fight, so he took care of business this time. Fifteen years of dominance went down with one punch.

Barry Bonds and the Giants -- This team has gone through struggle city and they don't want to fall too far behind the Dodgers in the NL West…This team is down, big time!

Calgary Flames -- The Flames jumped out to a 2-0 series lead, but couldn't win at home against the San Jose Sharks and now the series is tied 2-2.
