Stock Up: AL champion Angels

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Oct. 14
Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.

The Anaheim Angels are off to the World Series, thanks in part to the three home runs by Adam Kennedy in Sunday's clinching win over the Twins. Mike Scioscia has done a remarkable job, and now the Angels wait for the Giants-Cardinals winner.

Miami football coach Larry Coker survived a scare as the Hurricanes rallied from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to get past Bobby Bowden and his Seminoles. Coker is now 18-0 as Miami coach, and the Hurricanes have won 28 in a row.

The Texas Rangers made a great move in hiring former Yankees and Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter. He will instill discipline to the team. Alex Rodriguez and company should improve under Showalter's leadership, and he'll be a hero next season if the Rangers can compete.

Oklahoma's Quentin Griffin and Colorado's Chris Brown each enjoyed huge rushing games in Big 12 action. Griffin ran for 248 yards on 32 carries, including two touchdowns in the big win over Texas. Brown rambled for 309 yards in a 53-39 victory over Kansas.

It was struggle city for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, losing their third in a row, this time to the Packers. Brady was held below 200 yards passing and threw three interceptions.

Florida football has had a rough stretch. There was the loss at Mississippi, and now a blowout in the swamp, 36-7 to LSU. Rex Grossman has thrown eight interceptions in the last two games and Ron Zook has to be feeling some heat down in Gainesville.

Mack Brown, Chris Simms and company can't seem to get it done vs. Oklahoma. The Texas Longhorns had the lead before the Sooners put up 24 unanswered points Saturday.

The New York Giants had a disappointing home loss to the Falcons, and Dan Reeves' team won without the injured Michael Vick, baby!

Omar Cook, Rod Grizzard and William Avery have something in common. All three left early for the NBA draft, and each one made it onto the waiver wire in the last few days. It is sad to see when players get bad advice and become basketball vagabonds, trying to hook on to get a job.
