Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: La Russa, Scioscia, Bucs' D
Tony La Russa and Mike Scioscia -- A word of advice to all the GMs out there looking for managers: Look for the guys who love linguini, baby! My fellow paisans, skippers La Russa and Scioscia, led their teams (the Cardinals and the Angels) to the NLCS and ALCS, respectively. The Angels scored 31 runs in four games to shock the Yankees. The Cardinals have rallied and battled adversity all season to advance to within one step of the World Series.
Buccaneers' Defense -- Tampa Bay's D was suffocating in a big win over the Atlanta Falcons, holding Michael Vick to a 4-for-12 day and stopping ex-Buc Warrick Dunn cold (14 yards on nine carries).
Texas Tech QB Kliff Kingsbury -- Move over, Bob Knight, there's a new General at Texas Tech. Kingsbury threw for 474 yards and five TDs in leading the Red Raiders to a big win over Texas A&M.
STOCK DOWN: Gators, Rams, Steelers, Oakland Fans
Florida Football -- The Gators already have two losses, the latest to Ole Miss and QB Eli Manning. I love new coach Ron Zook, and I hope people are patient.
Steelers and Rams -- Who'd have ever thunk they'd be 1-8 combined right now? Coach Mike Martz and the Rams are 0-5. Wow, how the mighty have fallen.
Oakland Fans -- There were 20,000 empty seats in Oakland for the deciding game of the A's-Twins ALDS series on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I know playoff ticket prices are high, but there's no excuse for that, baby!
