Tiger keeps taming history

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

June 17
Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.

Obviously, you have to love the performance of Tiger Woods in winning the U.S. Open. He battled the weather and a tough course and won his eighth major -- pretty impressive for a man who's 26 years old! I still feel it won't be easy for him to equal the 18 majors won by the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus.

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning the NBA championship and to the Detroit Red Wings for taking the Stanley Cup. Coaches Phil Jackson and Scotty Bowman each have nine titles apiece now as coaches. Bowman retired on top as a champion, with the Red Wings capturing their third Cup in six years. For the Lakers, it's their third straight.

New York Mets starter Shawn Estes pitched brilliantly, striking out 11 Yankees on Saturday while also hitting a home run off Roger Clemens.

What about Senegal and the United States in the World Cup, both advancing to the quarterfinals, baby!

France and Argentina didn't make it to the round of 16 at the World Cup. France didn't even score a goal in three games.

Sergio Garcia complained on Friday at the U.S. Open about the weather. He said they wouldn't have played if it was Tiger stuck in that weather. Garcia had his chance head-to-head against Tiger on Sunday, but he folded.

Kenyon Martin ripped his New Jersey Nets teammates for lack of heart after the Los Angeles Lakers swept the NBA Finals. Let me tell you, it was simply an M&Mer, a mismatch. Shaquille O'Neal against Todd MacCulloch ... come on. It was like Cindy Crawford against Roseanne Barr in a beauty contest, baby!
