Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: Shaq, Red Wings, Schilling, Williamses
Shaquille O'Neal and the Los Angeles Lakers are dominant. Mark it down: When all is said and done, Shaq will be the greatest center in the history of the game. That's right, with his power, agility, mobility and domination, I give him the nod over the other greats -- Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, just to name a few.
The Detroit Red Wings had to dig deep to beat the Carolina Hurricanes in the third overtime early Sunday morning. Remember, the Red Wings struggled in their first playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks, dropping the first two games at home. Detroit also battled against the Colorado Avalanche, going seven games. Coach Scotty Bowman's team is up 2-1 now and is just two wins away from the Cup. Give credit to Bowman and his team for showing heart.
Curt Schilling is up to 12-1. What a battle on Saturday as he and Pedro Martinez staged a terrific pitching duel. It was an unbelievable matchup that lived up to the hype.
Give credit to the Williams family. It's special to have one family member ranked high in tennis, but Richard and Oracene Williams have two -- their daughters, Venus and Serena, are ranked 1-2 in the world, baby!
You have to salute Chris Webber. You're probably saying, wait a minute, the Sacramento Kings lost in the Western Conference finals. Well, did you see Mr. Webber on Saturday night at the Lewis-Tyson fight with Tyra Banks on his arm! Anybody who's dating Tyra Banks deserves a stock up!
STOCK DOWN: Tyson, France, Rangers
Michael Gerard Tyson is done, finished, washed up. He was humiliated by Lennox Lewis. He used to intimidate, but he is not what he once was in the ring. I hope he retires.
I don't know much about soccer, but I do know France is in trouble, baby! The defending World Cup champions have not scored a goal in their first two games -- and I can tell you that you won't win if you don't put the ball in the net.
Where is the pitching in Texas? My heart bleeds for Alex Rodriguez and company. The Texas Rangers have a solid lineup with A-Rod, Ivan Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro and Juan Gonzalez. The problem (again) is the pitching. This franchise is losing, losing, losing ... so GM John Hart will have to clean it up. I know he will do a fine job.
