Clemson's Scott nabs player of week award

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

The ACC has a number of talented guards, and one who gets overlooked at times is Clemson's Edward Scott.

He started his big week with 32 points and eight rebounds in a win at Virginia. Scott followed that up with 29 points and six assists in a victory over Florida State.

The Tigers are making a late run at postseason play, and Scott has been one of the keys to their success.

Coach Kelvin Sampson's Sooners looked like a top-five team, scoring a pair of important Big 12 Ws.

First came a 64-48 win over Oklahoma State, avenging an earlier setback in Stillwater. Then Oklahoma raced to a 32-point lead and held on to knock off Kansas in Norman.

The Sooners moved to 10-2 in Big 12 play and 19-4 overall, tying for first place with Kansas in the league. Oklahoma extended its home-court winning streak to 36 games, longest in the nation.

The Billikens have caught fire down the stretch. After beating Louisville the week before, Soderberg's troops came through with two big surprises last week.

Saint Louis won at Cincinnati for the first time since 1981-82. Then came a win at DePaul, which is pushing for NCAA consideration.

It has not been a great season for coach Billy Hahn and the Explorers, but the future is bright thanks to 6-foot-4 guard Gary Neal.

Neal hit seven trifectas en route to a 37-point effort against Xavier. He added 31 points against George Washington.

Portland scored a 72-68 stunner at Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash. The Pilots came into the contest with a 9-15 record (2-9 in West Coast Conference play).

Before the Wisconsin game, Penn State was 5-16 overall and 0-10 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions trailed 57-49 with 1:42 left to play before scoring the last nine points to score the shocker over the Badgers.
