Nov. 13
This is not the time to get overly discouraged or excited. We're a week or two away from that point. So don't get overly excited or discouraged when I repeat my Super Bowl forecast after Week 10: Chiefs vs. Rams. Now, for my top-five lists:
Best Games to Watch: Week 11
1. Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots -- Bill Parcells vs. Bill Belichick, great coaches, former partners, former friends with a pair of 7-2 teams on ESPN's Sunday Night Football (8:30 p.m. ET). This is even better than Gruden vs. Dungy.
2. Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- A make-or-break NFC desperation game between two rivals with the Warren Sapp-in-the-middle-of-everything subplot.
3. New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts -- The Jets throttled the Colts in the playoffs last year and are making a move, while the Colts stumbled with injuries and lost in Jacksonville.
4. Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins -- I can picture this ... a coin flip between Brian Griese and Jay Fiedler -- and the loser has to start at QB against the vicious Ravens' D.
5. Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers -- The ol' ball coach is breathing and could catch the Panthers on a letdown after a physical, emotional win over the Bucs.
MVP Update
1. Ray Lewis, Ravens
2. Steve McNair, Titans
3. Peyton Manning, Colts
4. Dante Hall, Chiefs
5. Stephen Davis, Panthers
Best Week 10 Games
1. Panthers 27, Bucs 24 -- It hardly gets any better than this NFC South showdown in Carolina. The Bucs overcame a 20-7 deficit in the fourth quarter and then watched the most unpredictable of comebacks as Panthers QB Jake Delhomme hit Steve Smith with the winning pass in the final minute.
2. Eagles 17, Packers 14 -- If you need any proof that a team's personality can become the extension of a head coach, try this game. Andy Reid's Eagles never panicked and then slammed the Packers in the final minutes at Lambeau Field.
3. Redskins 27, Seahawks 20 -- With the season crumbling and the score tied at 20, Redskins coach Steve Spurrier rolled the dice on fourth-and-inches with more than six minutes left from his own 25 and parlayed it into a gimmick TD pass from Rod Gardner to Trung Canidate.
4. Cowboys 10, Bills 6 -- If you want to see how coaching smart can win a football game, find somebody who taped this one. It was a pretty good defensive display by both teams.
5. Jaguars 28, Colts 23 -- It had the smell of a possible upset going in, and then RB Fred Taylor, QB Byron Leftwich and WR Jimmy Smith made it real.
Most Impressive in Victory
1. Titans 31, Dolphins 7 -- Even with Dolphins defensive stars Zach Thomas and Patrick Surtain sidelined, the Titans looked dominant as they destroyed Brian Griese.
2. Chiefs 41, Browns 20 -- Now the Chiefs are seriously lethal as the offense puts together its second straight unstoppable performance (30 first downs).
3. Rams 33, Ravens 22 -- No, it wasn't very pretty. But when did you think that the Rams would score 33 points because of their defense?
4. Bengals 34, Texans 27 -- The Bengals were on the verge of being upended for the second straight week by a sub-.500 team (which they also happen to be), but they scored the final 10 points of the game to move into AFC North contention.
5. Jaguars 28, Colts 23 -- QB Byron Leftwich learned a valuable lesson -- take care of the football and you have a chance to win with the Jags' defense, Taylor and Smith.
Best Performance: Quarterback
1. Doug Flutie, Chargers -- For a team in dire need of a spark, the 41-year-old wonder delivered 268 yards passing and four TDs (two passing and two rushing).
2. Trent Green, Chiefs -- Took apart the Browns for 368 yards and three TDs.
3. Steve McNair, Titans -- He really is starting to make this look a little too easy (17-of-23, 201 yards, 2 TDs).
4. Jake Delhomme, Panthers -- He threw two interceptions but then did something nobody expected by drilling five passes for 78 yards in a two-minute display that would have impressed such NFL drama maestros as Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino and Brett Favre.
5a. Daunte Culpepper, Vikings -- Culpepper passed for 370 yards and four TDs in loss to Chargers.
5b. Donovan McNabb, Eagles -- He managed the game like a pro in somewhat dire weather conditions and then made every play the Eagles needed in the final two minutes to lift Philly to its biggest win yet.
5c. Drew Brees, Chargers -- For managing a painful benching and genuinely cheering on his replacement, Doug Flutie.
Best Performance: Wide Receiver
1. Keenan McCardell, Bucs -- He made an absolutely clutch, sensational 36-yard TD grab to give the Bucs a 21-20 lead; finished with nine catches and 118 yards in heartbreaking defeat.
2. Santana Moss, Jets -- If you haven't been paying attention lately, Santana is silencing his doubters. This time he had six catches for 146 yards and one TD as he continues to soften the blow of the Jets losing Laveranues Coles.
3. Laveranues Coles, Redskins -- As the Redskins protected QB Patrick Ramsey, Coles finally resurfaced with 11 catches, 120 yards and one TD in the biggest win of the season for the Redskins.
4. Ricky Proehl, Panthers -- Good-guy veteran had just three catches, but they went for 133 yards and one TD; his 29-yard reception was a Kodak moment that set up the Panthers' dramatic win over the Bucs.
5. Randy Moss, Vikings -- Only 11 catches for 120 yards and one TD.
Best Performance: Running Back
1. Rudi Johnson, Bengals -- He continues to inspire as he carried 42 times for 182 yards and two TDs. How's that groin feeling, Corey?
2. Warrick Dunn, Falcons -- You know, when this guy became the main back last season, the Falcons got hot. Sunday, the little man rushed for 178 yards on 25 carries and one TD as Atlanta stunned the Giants 27-7.
3. Fred Taylor, Jaguars -- He had a grudge vs. the Colts and S Mike Doss and delivered the KO on a 32-yard run to lift the Jags over the Colts.
4. LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers -- Flutie wasn't the only Charger having a blast; Tomlinson averaged 10.1 yards a carry for 162 yards and two TDs.
5a. Moe Williams, Vikings -- It wasn't his fault the Vikes blew one to the Chargers. Williams ran for 45 yards and caught 11 passes for 126 yards and two TDs.
5b. Priest Holmes, Chiefs -- Another complete game (11 for 92 rushing, 2 TDs; 7-for-66 receiving).
