FIORANO, Italy -- Formula One world champion
Michael Schumacher had a first outing in the new Ferrari F2001
on Thursday and said it met all his expectations.
"The car drives very cleanly and feels very good. The
cornering is very stable. All our expectations are being met,"
the German said after 30 trouble-free laps on a bright morning
at Ferrari's test track in northern Italy.
"The car reacted as we would expect to changes in the
setup," he said.
Technical director Ross Brawn, who at the official launch
last Monday described the F2001 as the best Ferrari the team had
ever built, attended the session with team boss Jean Todt and
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo.
The Italian ANSA news agency reported that Schumacher had
lapped half a second quicker than test driver Luca Badoer's
fastest time in the old car a year ago.
"Now we have to look at what problems may arise. There will
be problems and we must find and solve them," said Schumacher.
Ferrari was also testing with last year's F1-2000 cars at
two other tracks on Thursday.
Brazilian Rubens Barrichello was at the Barcelona circuit
while Italian Fabrizio Giovanardi, standing in for the injured
Badoer, tested straight line speed at Vairano in Italy.
