NAPA 250 postponed until Monday

Associated Press

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Rain that began just as the driver's introductions were beginning washed out the NAPA 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, forcing the race to be postponed until Monday.

With the NASCAR Winston Cup Series' Goody's 500 scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m., the truck race was pushed back two days. It will be run at 11 a.m.

The postponement marks only the third time since the series started in 1995 that a truck series event has been postponed, and the second time it has happened here. Rain also postponed the 1995 race for two days.

Martinsville has no lights for racing, so night racing is not an option.

Mike Wallace, already the points leader in the series, will try for his second consecutive victory from the pole. He won the California 250 on March 26.

Bobby Hamilton will start on the outside of the front row in the race around the .526-mile paper clip-shaped oval, where the five previous truck series races have produced five different winners. Defending champion Jimmy Hensley will start 21st.
