PHOENIX (AP) -- Katie Smith scored 36 points as the Minnesota Lynx snapped a five-game losing streak with a 68-63 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night.

Smith, the WNBA's leading scorer who also played in the ABL, surpassed 3,000 points for her professional career.

Svetlana Abrosimova added 16 points for the Lynx, who ended a six-game road losing streak.

Phoenix's loss, combined with Utah's victory over Houston earlier Wednesday, left the Mercury three games behind the Starzz in the race for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference with seven games remaining.

Jennifer Gillom and Maria Stepanova each scored 15 points for the Mercury, who had won five of their last six games.

Smith hit consecutive 3-pointers and helped Minnesota push its lead to 20 points, 48-28, with 14:05 left.

The Mercury used a 13-3 run to close within 62-59 with 2:08 left. Abrosimova hit a 3-pointer, pushing Minnesota's lead to six points. Phoenix failed to score on its next two possessions.
