AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Shock used a 15-0 run
late in the second half to wipe out a 10-point deficit and defeat
the Orlando Miracle 64-62 on Sunday night.
Detroit (7-18) broke a three-game losing streak, while Orlando
(9-15) lost its second consecutive contest.
"That was great," Shock coach Greg Williams said about his
team's late spurt. "Because we've usually been on the other end of
those."
Jay Kingi's 3-pointer with 47 seconds left broke a 60-60 tie and
put the Shock up for good. Kingi, who finished with 11 points, had
also hit a 3-pointer with 1:56 left to give Detroit a 60-56 lead.
"We've been waiting for that one for a long time," said Kingi.
"We've worked so hard and we kept falling short. There was no way
I was going to let us lose another one."
Edwina Brown led Detroit with 13 points, and Astou Ndiaye-Diatta
had 12.
Jessie Hicks and Taj McWilliams-Franklin each had 15 for
Orlando.
Down 52-42, Barbara Farris started Detroit's run with a layup
with 9:57 left. Orlando didn't score again until Hicks' layup with
2:55 left, leaving the Shock with a 57-54 lead.
Orlando led 36-30 at halftime, thanks mostly to a spurt of three
baskets in 34 seconds late in the first half.
Hicks, Shannon Johnson and Nykesha Sales all put in layups with
less than three minutes left in the half. That burst gave the Miracle a
