Leslie's 20 powers Sparks to third win

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lisa Leslie had 20 points and nine rebounds Saturday night to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to a 76-67 victory over Charlotte, spoiling the debut of Sting coach Anne Donovan.

DeLisha Milton scored 13 and Mwadi Mabika added 12 for the Sparks, who won their third straight game.

Andrea Stinson led Charlotte with 21 points. Allison Feaster, acquired in an offseason trade with Los Angeles, scored 16.

The Sting, who went 8-24 last season and didn't win a home game until July 5, had a chance late.

After the Sparks built a 61-46 lead with just over 9:00 left, the Sting battled back.

Charlotte got six points from Stinson in a 12-2 run that cut Los Angeles' lead to 63-58 with 4:17 to play.

Rookie Kelly Miller started the run with a jumper and Stinson scored four straight on a pair of free throws and a driving layup.

Feaster then hit her fourth 3-pointer, Stinson scored on another layup and Clarisse Machanguana made a free throw to complete the run.

But the Sparks answered the run at the free throw line, hitting five-of-six to push their lead back into double digits at 68-58.

After Stinson hit a 3-pointer for Charlotte, Leslie answered with a layup and two free throws that made it 72-61 and sealed the victory.

Rhonda Mapp, Charlotte's longtime center who was sent to Los Angeles for Feaster, scored 11 and shot 5-for-6 from the line.
