PHOENIX (AP) -- Lisa Harrison scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Phoenix Mercury over the Minnesota Lynx 64-54 Tuesday night. The Mercury beat the Lynx in the season series, 2-1, taking a 2½-game lead in the race for the final Western Conference playoff spot. Brandy Reed had 12 points, and Jennifer Gillom and Tonya Edwards had nine each as the Mercury (12-6) won their third straight. Gillom played 31 minutes in her first action since spraining her left ankle July 2 at Houston. Katie Smith, who was 1-for-7 in the first half, scored 19 of her 24 points in the second, but couldn't prevent the Lynx (10-9) from losing their season-high fourth in a row. Smith, the WNBA's No. 2 scorer, hit a 3-pointer 33 seconds into the second half. Midway through the half, she made three straight baskets, one a 3-pointer, and the Lynx closed within 47-43 with 8:50 remaining. But the Mercury pulled away with free throws, including two by Harrison, who was 12-of-13 from the line and 5-of-7 from the field. Harrison also had a season-high eight rebounds. The Mercury never trailed, using a 10-2 spurt to take a 29-17 lead with 3:30 left in the first half.
