BOX SCORE
MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Lisa Leslie scored 21 points and Mwabi Mabika and Ukari Figgs each hit critical 3-pointers as the Los Angeles Sparks remained perfect at the Target Center with an 82-75 triumph over the Minnesota Lynx. Katie Smith, who finished with a career-best 33 points, nailed a 3-pointer as Minnesota closed to 74-71 with 2:59 left. But the Lynx made just one field goal the rest of the way and fell to 1-4 all-time against the Sparks, including 0-3 here. Mabika doubled the lead with a 3-pointer with 2:31 remaining. Following a series of missed shots, Figgs added a basket of her own from beyond the arc for an 80-71 lead with 63 seconds to play. Tamecka Dixon scored 13 points and Figgs added 11 for the Sparks, who opened 2-0 for the second straight season. They shot 48 percent (28-of-60) from the floor and Figgs was 3-of-4 from 3-point range as Los Angeles made 7-of-15 from the arc. Betty Lennox had 15 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out and fellow rookie Grace Daley added 10 points for Minnesota, which has dropped two straight. Minnesota coach Brian Agler's idea of using just seven players -- including four rookies -- backfired. Newcomers Keitha Dickerson and Marla Brumfield combined for just seven points on 2-of-6 shooting in 50 minutes. Los Angeles used a 9-1 run to open a 71-63 lead with four minutes left. Leslie closed the spurt with a 3-point play and Figgs and Clarisse Machanguana each scored three. Following an exchange of baskets, Smith -- who was 6-of-13 from 3-point range -- connected from beyond the arc with 3:22 left to bring Minnesota within 73-68. Leslie made 1-of-2 free throws as Los Angeles went ahead by six with 3:06 remaining.
