Rapids 2, Wizards 2

DENVER (AP) _ Roy Lassiter's penalty kick in injury time rallied the Kansas City Wizards to a 2-2 tie Sunday night with the Colorado Rapids.

Lassiter rifled the shot past goalie Scott Garlick for his first penalty-kick goal of the season. It was the sixth allowed by Garlick.

The penalty was called for an inadvertent hand ball off a cornerkick by Rapids defender Marcelo Balboa.

Colorado (5-9-8) wasted a two-goal effort by John Spencer. In the 56th minute, Spencer took a long pass from Robin Frazier, headed the ball into play and scored past a diving Tony Meola to give the Rapids a 2-1 lead.

Meola played his first game after missing 13 contests for the Wizards (9-10-3) following abdominal surgery in May.

Ritchie Kotschau and Carlos Valderrama, who earned his 98th career MLS assist, set up Spencer's first goal.

In the 52nd minute, the Wizards' Francisco Gomez blasted a shot untouched through the wall and just inside the left corner post to tie it 1-1.

The Rapids have not lost a game this season when leading at halftime.
