FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- First-half goals by Tyrone Marshall and Diego Serna held up as the Miami Fusion defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 in the MLS on Wednesday night.

With the victory, Miami (12-3-3, 39 points) broke a two-game losing streak. The Fusion had not scored since a 4-3 victory over Columbus on June 30.

After spotting the Fusion two goals within a 13-minute span, the Fire (10-4-3, 33 points) closed to 2-1 on Sergi Daniv's goal in the 72nd minute.

Former Fusion player Eric Wynalda passed to Daniv inside the penalty box area, where Daniv unloaded a shot from 18 yards past Miami goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Marshall opened Miami's scoring with a goal in the 23rd minute. Serna dribbled toward the Fire back line, spun and sent a pass back to an open Marshall, who headed it in from six yards past Chicago goalkeeper Zach Thornton.

Miami went up to 2-0 on Serna's 12th goal of the season in the 36th minute. After receiving a short pass from Lazo Alavanja, Serna drilled a 26-yard shot that landed inside the left post.

Chicago had its best scoring threat of the first half on consecutive shots in the ninth minute. Jamar Beasley took an open shot from 18 yards that was deflected by Rimando. Fire midfielder Jesse Marsch took the deflection and lobbed a shot over Rimando. But Rimando raced back and batted away the ball before it crossed the goal line.
