West has his first two-goal game

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- Brian West scored in the 67th and 78th minutes and Tom Presthus made nine saves as the Columbus Crew beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 on Wednesday night.

West opened the scoring on a close-range shot after goalkeeper Matt Reis made a save. On the second goal, West pushed the ball past Reis about 30 yards from the goal, controlled it again just outside the penalty area and scored into the unguarded net.

The two-goal game was the first of West's four-year MLS career. He has five goals this season.

Columbus improved to 5-5-4, and is an MLS-best 8-4-2 overall against Los Angeles. The Galaxy fell to 7-5-5 with their second straight shutout.

A crowd of 52,634 attended the game and a fireworks show.
