CHICAGO (AP) _ Dema Kovalenko scored in the 73rd minute and helped the Chicago Fire salvage a 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Jesse Marsch and Peter Nowak picked up assists on Kovalenko's fifth goal of the season.

Cate, New England's points leader, opened the scoring in the 59th minute. He scored his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick after being tackled by Fire midfielder Sergi Daniv.

The tie extends New England's unbeaten streak to four games. The Revolution, who beat Chicago in overtime on May 12, have lost just once in their last eight games (4-1-3).

Chicago is winless in five overtime games (0-2-3).

Cate's goal snapped the season-high 231-minute shutout streak of Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton.

The Fire had a flurry of shots in the closing minutes of regulation. Causy stopped a header by Damarcus Beasley's header, and defender Ted Chronopoulos preserved the tie by stopping Marsch's shot from 7 yards with Causey still out of position.
