Fusion ties with Galaxy

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Diego Serna scored with 10 minutes remaining to help Miami salvage a 3-3 tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night, extending the Fusion's home unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Miami (10-1-2), trailing by two goals at halftime, tied the match on second-half goals by Jim Rooney, in the 53rd minute, and Serna.

Rooney scored on a header off a crossing pass from Chris Henderson, cutting Miami's deficit to 3-2.

Serna took a touch pass from Rooney, eluded Galaxy defender Peter Vagenas and scored just inside the left post from 18 yards.

Serna, who has scored seven goals in his last three matches, gave Miami a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. A pass by Fusion midfielder Ian Bishop grazed Serna's head and went into the Galaxy goal.

The Galaxy (6-4-4) scored three goals in the final 35 minutes of the first half.

Alexi Lalas' header from inside the 6-yard box in the 27th minute tied the match at 1.

Los Angeles moved out to a 2-1 lead on an own goal by Bishop at the 35th minute. Bishop deflected Los Angeles' Paul Caligiuri's free kick into the Fusion net.

Mauricio Ciefuegos scored from 15 yards in the 45th minute. Cobi Jones set up the goal with an uncontested run past the Miami backline and delivered a centering pass to Ciefuegos.

The Fusion played without defenders Carlos Llamosa and Tyrone Marshall, who played for the United States and Jamaica, respectively, in Saturday's World Cup qualifying match.

World Cup qualifying commitments also forced the Galaxy to play without Greg Vanney (U.S.), Luis Hernandez (Mexico) and Simon Elliott (New Zealand).
