Fusion unbeaten in past seven games

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Jim Rooney scored in the 71st minute to lead Miami to a 2-1 victory over D.C. United on Wednesday night, extending the Fusion's unbeaten streak to seven games.

Rooney's shot inside the box was partially deflected by D.C. goalkeeper Mike Ammann but caromed inside the right post. Rooney's third goal of the year was set up by Diego Serna, who delivered a crossing pass from the right wing.

Preki gave the Fusion (8-1-1) a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when he scored on a penalty kick after Miami's Alex Pineda Chacon was tripped by United's Carey Talley inside the penalty box.

D.C. (3-5) tied the match at the 54th minute on Chris Albright's first goal of the season.

Albright took a centering pass from Marco Etcheverry and scored inside the right post on a shot from the half circle of the penalty box.

United's goal broke Rimando's 298-minute shutout streak.

A minute before Albright's goal, Rimando stopped Jaime Moreno's penalty shot, which came after D.C.'s Bobby Convey was fouled inside the penalty area by Miami's Pablo Mastroeni.

D.C. had two scoring opportunities to erase the deficit during the first half but Rimando came out of the box to deflect a shot by Albright at the 19th minute and then stopped a second shot by Albright three minutes later.
