Fire: First home loss since last May

CHICAGO (AP) -- Luis Hernandez scored two goals as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat Chicago 4-3 Wednesday night, snapping the Fires' MLS-record home unbeaten streak at 15 games.

A score by Hernandez in the 70th minute gave the Galaxy a two-goal lead. Los Angeles held on and dealt Chicago its first loss at Soldier Field since May 20, 2000.

Eric Wynalda scored in the 75th minute as Chicago closed within 4-3.

Los Angeles' Peter Vanegas lifted a 25-yard shot past goalkeeper Zach Thornton in the 53rd minute to break a 2-all tie.

Hristo Stoitchkov added a goal and an assist for the Fire. After being tackled by goalkeeper Matt Reis inside the 18-yard box, Stoitchkov opened the scoring in the 12th minute by beating Reis low for his first goal of the season.

In the 22nd minute, Diego Gutierrez was called for tackling in the box, and Greg Vanney converted a penalty kick.

Hernandez beat Thornton in the 19th minute.

The attendance was 9,498.
