Cate's two goals pace Revs

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Marco Antonio Cate scored two goals, including a game-winning penalty kick, as the New England Revolution defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 in the MLS on Wednesday night.

The winner came in the 83rd minute, when Cate's penalty kick went past Crew goalkeeper Tom Prestus to the right side. The kick was awarded after Brian Maisonneuve brought down Ted Chronopoulos in the penalty area.

The victory was the second straight for the Revolution (2-6-0), who opened the season 0-6, the worst start in MLS history.

The Revolution took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute on Cate's first goal. He took a pass from Chronopoulos and dribbled unmarked into the top of the penalty area, where he scored from 17 yards.

Columbus (1-3-2) tied the score less than four minutes later when Edson Buddle scored from 15 yards.

Former Revolution midfielder John Harkes hit the crossbar twice in the opening half. Playing in his first game since he was traded to Columbus on May 11, Harkes drilled a 20-yard shot off the crossbar in the 13th minute and hit it again from about the same spot 30 minutes later.
