Villegas scores in 90th minute

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Petter Villegas' goal in the final seconds capped a late three-goal rally as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars beat the D.C. United 3-2 Saturday night.

Clint Mathis scored in the 80th minute, Rodrigo Faria tied the game in the 88th minute and Villegas scored the winner in the 90th minute.

The victory was the third straight for the MetroStars (4-1-1), who moved into a tie for first place in the Eastern Division with Miami.

Jaime Moreno scored two goals for D.C. United (3-2).

Trailing 2-0 in the 80th minute, Mathis scored his sixth goal of the season from close range.

Faria scored from close range in the 88th minute. Mathis and Alex Comas assisted on Faria's first MLS goal.

Villegas scored the winning goal from a difficult right angle, slipping his shot across the goal mouth.

D.C. United took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Moreno in the 33rd minute. Moreno slipped his shot just inside the left post after a MetroStars defender was called for a handball.

Moreno scored his second goal in the 52nd minute. He has 14 goals in 18 career games against the MetroStars.
