Chacon fails to convert

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Alex Pineda Chacon missed on two scoring chances in the first half as the Miami Fusion played to a 0-0 tie against the Columbus Crew on Saturday.

Pineda Chacon, tied for the MLS lead with five goals, whiffed on a wide-open shot from 6 yards in the 22nd minute. On a breakaway in the 41st minute, Crew goalkeeper Tom Presthus stopped Pineda Chacon's low shot.

The Fusion (4-1-1) also missed a chance to score in the 25th minute when Diego Serna's shot hit the crossbar from 12 yards.

U.S. National Team member Brian McBride played in his first MLS game this season for the Crew (1-1-2). He had been out with a sprained knee.

Columbus has scored just one goal in its three home games.
