New England falls to 0-3

WASHINGTON (AP) – Abdul Thompson Conteh scored twice to lead the D.C. United past the New England Revolution 2-1 Saturday night.

Conteh's second goal of the game snapped a 1-1 tie in the 61st minute as D.C. United (2-1) dealt the Revolution their third straight loss to open the season.

Penned into the right corner, United defender Mark Watson crossed the ball and, when goalie Juergen Sommer missed on an attempt to punch the ball out of the crease, Conteh kicked it in.

Matt Okoh scored for New England.

United coach Thomas Rongen benched struggling striker Raul Diaz Arce and replaced him with Conteh, who scored his first goal for D.C. in the ninth minute.

Brian Kamler lobbed a feed from Bobby Convey into the penalty area and Conteh, stationed 6 yards in front of the goal, leaped and flicked a header past Sommer.

D.C. wasted a chance to go up 2-0 with about a minute remaining in the first half, when Sommer blocked a penalty kick attempt by Carey Talley.

Okoh, who had entered the game as a substitute after halftime, tied the game in the 49th minute on a rebound off a penalty kick.

Wolde Harris had a chance to tie the game on a breakaway with three minutes left, but United goalie Mike Ammann made the save.
