Revs blank E-Quakes, pad East lead

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Ted Chronopoulos scored his fifth goal of the year and reserve forward Jamar Beasley added two goals in the final 16 minutes Saturday as Eastern Division-leading New England beat San Jose 3-0.

Chronopoulos converted off a John Harkes throw-in at the 28-minute mark of the first half. Beasley, who replaced Johnny Torres in the 67th minute, scored his first career goal in 22 matches in the 74th minute, heading in a cross from Imad Baba to give New England a 2-0 lead.

Beasley scored again in the 87th minute, turning San Jose goalie Joe Cannon inside out and tucking the ball in from 12 yards out.

New England (7-4-4) now has 25 points, just one shy of its total for all of last season.

San Jose (3-7-4) played without midfielder Ron Cerritos, who has a quadricep strain, and Khodadad Azizi, who is playing with the Iranian national team.
