| | WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Canada's four-time world ice dance bronze medallists Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz will not compete at the 2000 world figure skating championships in Nice, France, next month.
Bourne requires surgery to repair her injured knee and would not recover in time to train for the worlds, which begin March 26, the Canadian Figure Skating Association announced Tuesday.
"We have been at every world championship since 1993 and I am really sorry not to be able to compete but I have to put my health first," Bourne said in a written statement.
Bourne, 23, whose knee injury also prevented the couple from competing for a record eighth Canadian title two weeks ago, said she expects to be able to tour Canada with Stars on Ice in April and intends to compete next season.
The pair had an unsettling last-place finish at the ISU Grand Prix final in Lyon, France, last month, shortly after that, Bourne reported pain in her right knee. She had surgery last summer to alleviate a similar pain in her left knee.
Newly crowned Canadian ice dance champions Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon and silver medallists Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe will represent Canada at the world championships.
