ESPN.com, GolfSpan.com team up

May 10, 2000

ESPN.com and GolfSpan.com have launched the most comprehensive video golf instructional content online, housed within ESPN.com's Golf Online section (http://espn.go.com/golfonline/). This arrangement enhances ESPN.com's already strong golf package by providing users with what some consider the most valuable golf information available - video instruction.

Now, in addition to Golf Online's regular instructional editorial pieces, ESPN.com will feature 10 weekly golf videos selected from GolfSpan's continually expanding library of over 300 tips. Instruction covers every aspect of the golf game, is suited for all player levels, can be accessed via GolfSpan's multi-functional search engine, and is available free, on-demand. Videos range from one-and-a-half to three minutes in length, are specifically produced for Internet distribution, and are formatted in 28k, 56k, ISDN and T1 speeds.

"We are proud to have aligned with ESPN.com to provide the exclusive online services of world renowned PGA Professional Instructors Jim McLean, Hank Haney and Jimmy Ballard to all their users," said GolfSpan.com CEO Peter Yunis. "These instructors have taught over 500 Tour Professionals including Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Hal Sutton, Jesper Parnevik and Mark O'Meara. No other Internet golf site can match the quality or quantity of our instructional content. Most importantly, all of our instruction is in video format which is vastly superior to text, and thus clearly the best way for golfers to improve their game."

"These are the greatest teachers in the world and our users can stop by for a lesson anytime they want," said John Marvel, vice president and executive editor, ESPN.com. "Whether you're a scratch player or a hacker, the GolfSpan instruction staff can help your game."

"Our goal in creating the premier multimedia instructional site was to give golfers worldwide a complete resource that included helpful golf videos" said Jim McLean, the 1994 PGA of America Teacher of the Year and one of three GolfSpan.com founding members. "The instructional videos are available 24 hours a day, so no matter when a golfer decides it's time to refine his or her game, it's just a click away."

In an effort to provide their users with personalized access, McLean, Haney and Ballard conduct weekly live text and audio chats (Thursday 2-3 p.m. ET) on ESPN.com. McLean joined Haney, the 1993 PGA of America Teacher of the Year; and Ballard, Golf Magazine's 80's Teacher of the Decade, in founding the leading online golf instructional video company. Other leading instructors with video tips include Chuck Cook, David Glenz, Jane Blalock, Jack Lumpkin, Denis Pugh, Steve Bann, Paul Marchand, Mike LaBauve, Sandy LaBauve and sports psychologists Dr. Fran Pirozzolo and Dr. Richard Coop.
