Randy Moss, the winner with 30 percent of the more than 125,000 votes in last week's poll, said he didn't feel like attending and no one could make him.
Runner-up Bud Selig not only refused to accept the award in place of Moss ("Honored? Why should I be honored?"), he tried to have the main course and
the dessert eliminated from the banquet menu.
Felipe Almonte regretfully declined as well, saying he was taking little Danny to Trump's Casino instead that night.
Dan Duquette also refused to attend, then laid off the wait staff, while Carl Everett said he would come, but not on time, and certainly not if Jimy
Williams or any reporters would be there.
Terry Glenn sent the RSVP to his lawyer and is threatening to either attend or file a lawsuit against us, he hasn't decided.
Vince McMahon said he would be happy to attend, but only if he got to break his folding chair over our panel of judges (we declined).
And we couldn't hear over all the shouted profanities from Rasheed Wallace whether he planned to come, but we assumed not.
So, we wound up canceling the banquet. Our apologies to everyone who planned to attend, especially Ryan Leaf. You would have been one fantastic emcee. But
cheer up. You could be guest of honor next year.
